French League Cup Final: AS Monaco 1-4 Paris Saint-Germain

The much anticipated League Cup Final was much a demonstration from PSG than a real fight between two of the best team in Europe. Monaco played for about 44 minutes while the game was tied at 1-1. But then Angel Di Maria scored a gaol right before the break that seemed to breakdown Monaco. The Ligue 1 leaders were unable to develop their game and gave up two more goals in the second half.

For PSG, this is the 4th straight League Cup trophy.

PSG Coach Emery comments:

“This team is used to winning titles. It’s important for the supporters and for us. It was good to be playing against Monaco and it was the opportunity to show that we are still here. The players did the job. Congratulations also to Monaco that enjoyed a great run to the final. We showed for 90 minutes that we are a good team. We believe in the league title now. If we get the chance, we will take it. That’s our aim.”

PSG Captain Thiago Silva:
“We played with character. It was a very tough game, for both teams. Monaco are having a great season. We didn’t see the real Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona. But today we did. Sometimes football can be cruel and unfair, but tonight Paris Saint-Germain played very well and deserved the victory.”

Monaco Vice-president Vasilyev:

“Obviously, we’re disappointed. I’d like to congratulate PSG on their deserved victory. It wasn’t our best game. The players will learn. This was the first final for a lot of young players. It will be an experience for the future. Starting tomorrow, we’ll be focusing on our main objective: the league. We’re still involved in three competitions. The league remains our priority. We’ve always said that. The Coupe de France and Champions League will be bonuses.”
