France 3-0 Ukraine (aggregate 3-2)
It was one of those magical night of football where France accomplished a miracle.. Down 2-0 after the first leg in Ukraine, Les Bleus were against the wall at State de France in Paris. Lifted up by 80,000 people, they managed an improbable come-back to win 3-0 and validate thir sport to Brazil World Cup. They also became the first to overturn a 2-0 deficit in a play-off set up anbd qualify for the World Cup. As Coach Deschamps described – It is “the magic of football”.
Deschanps speak to French TV: “It’s the magic of football. Four days ago we were bad, very bad, but the players responded well. Tonight we played very well.
“It was very important for French football that we are in Brazil next summer. We will be there, that is very good. We were up against a good team and we showed a lot of heart and enthusiasm. When you have these basic ingredients, you can achieve good things.”
Sakho (France defender): “I am happy. The team spirit was there. My first (sic) goal gave us hope and we were all together in the dressing room, you need that collective spirit. We also have to acknowledge the fans who cheered us on. All the French public were behind the team.”
