ENGLAND MANAGER PLEASED WITH PROFESSIONAL APPROACH IN SAN MARINO

San Marino 0-8 England

Roy Hodgson admits he will have a selection headache for Tuesday’s huge clash with Group H leaders Montenegro after his side’s ruthless performance against San Marino.

The Three Lions dealt with their hosts in style, with an 8-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico, the first time an England team has scored eight since 1987.

And, when asked whether some players’ performances will give him a dilemma on Tuesday, England Manager Hodgson admitted: “You could name quite a few players who did that.

“It was one of those games where everyone brought his straw to the water and I wouldn’t like to criticise anyone’s performance.

“It was really good to see one or two players who haven’t got that many caps to their name showing that they deserve to be in the England squad and when it’s their turn to play they can come up with the goods.

“We are a class above our opponents and we know that.

“It was good for some of our players to get a chance, the ones that don’t always play in the team.”

On his side’s ruthless performance in the second half, in which they added three more goals, Hodgson added: “I thought that we’d battered them before the first goal went in but it was nice to score the others in quick succession.

“Often when you’re leading by that margin at half-time, the second half can die out.

“But this one didn’t and I thought we continued to play very good football and thought we were more than good value for our three goals in the second half.

“It couldn’t have been much better. It was a very professional performance.”
