England Manager was never ‘panicked’ during match with France in Donetsk

England Manager Roy Hodgson saw his side begin their Euro 2012 campaign with a draw against France in Donetsk and admitted afterwards that is happy with the way the Three Lions are evolving under his stewardship.

A first-half header from Joleon Lescott put England ahead, only for Samir Nasri to equalise less than ten minutes later and that was how the scoreline remained.

It means a point for both teams and Hodgson was pleased with how England performed in his first competitive game in charge and now moves on to Friday’s match with Sweden in Kiev.

“I thought we played well,” he said. “We were up against a team who ask lots of questions of you. They have talented players who get the ball in the final third and don’t panic. We needed to be disciplined.

“To get a 1-1 and ask the questions we did, I am happy.

“The fact is, they are a good team but we kept them at bay and they didn’t get into too many situations where I was panicking.

“I thought we had a few situations where, with a bit of luck, we could have got that second goal.”
