Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal

Chelsea in good position to win Premier League, the first year after Mourinho’s return.

Arsene Wenger reacts after the third humiliating defeat away this season:

on the defeat…
It was a nightmare and I take full responsibility for it. What is important is to give a response on Tuesday night and that is it.

on what went wrong…
I don’t believe it is the time to talk too much about that. The players are deeply disappointed as we all are. I think let us prepare for the next game

on the sending off…
The referee made a mistake because he missed the identity of the player. He has not seen what happened at all. He gave a corner. Maybe it was a penalty. But it was not Gibbs.

on whether it was a sending off offence…
I don’t know I have not seen it. If it is a deliberate handball yes. If it is not a deliberate handball then no.

on the title race…
It leaves it in a very bad situation. But we want to respond. We had two difficult away games at Tottenham and Chelsea. If we had played two draws we’d have two points. Having won one we have three points. But today is a huge disappointment of course. When you don’t turn up in a game if this stature – nobody takes that easy

on whether he still believes…
We have to win the next game. That is what we have to focus on now and give a strong response.

Jose Mourinho on celebrating his biggest win Chelsea manager:

‘We had 10 amazing minutes and with that you can win the game and show everybody that today you won’t give a chance to any opponent,’ he said. ‘I was so happy with the approach, we came to kill and in 10 minutes we destroyed them. After that it was easy; penalty, red card, 3-0, but my analysis of the game is about the 10 minutes. It was a very good performance.

‘We knew they wanted the ball and they wanted to build from the back. We pressed them very high immediately, recovered the ball and attacked the space fast. The 10 minutes were so amazing that we still had space for Petr Cech to make an important save from the only shot Arsenal had.

‘We are not a team that normally starts very well, it normally takes time. Our second half is usually better than the first half but in the last two matches it had a big impact on the game.

‘I wanted three points, a good performance and we got that. On top of that we got the result with numbers that are special for the fans. We work for the fans and if we can give them what we did, it’s even more beautiful.’
